NOC in Nepal 2026: two thousand rupees, about a week, entirely online

The No Objection Certificate is one of the simplest parts of going abroad and one of the easiest to be overcharged for. The whole process, in order.

The No Objection Certificate is mandatory for every Nepali student going abroad to study, at any level, including a language course. It is also one of the simplest steps in the whole process, and one of the easiest to be charged several times over for.

NPR 2,000. Three to seven working days. Entirely online since 2024.

If somebody is asking you for more than two thousand rupees to obtain a NOC, that is not what they are charging you for.

Six steps, in this order

1. Get the offer first. The NOC cannot be applied for until you hold an offer letter. People get this backwards, treating the NOC as something to start early, when it is the opposite: it sits between the offer and the visa.

2. Create an account at noc.moest.gov.np. The whole process has been online since 2024. There is no queue at Keshar Mahal for a standard application, and nobody needs to be paid to stand in one for you.

3. Upload the documents. Academic certificates and transcripts, citizenship, passport, the offer letter, evidence of fees paid or the financial arrangement, and an equivalence certificate where your qualification was not awarded in Nepal.

4. Pay NPR 2,000. Through ConnectIPS, eSewa or Khalti, inside the portal.

5. Wait three to seven working days. That is the normal range when everything is right.

6. Download the signed PDF. The 2026 certificate is digitally signed and carries a QR code, which embassies, banks and universities scan to verify instantly. It also means a forged one is now trivially detectable.

The three things that hold it up

Name mismatches. The spelling on your citizenship, your passport and your transcripts has to agree. This causes more delay than everything else put together, and fixing it afterwards takes far longer than checking it now. Go and look at all three documents today.

A missing equivalence certificate. Required where your qualification was not awarded in Nepal, and it has its own queue on top of the NOC's.

Unreadable uploads. A phone photograph of a certificate taken at an angle in bad light is the most common rejection there is. Use a scanner or a scanning app, flat, in daylight.

Why the timing matters more than the fee

The NOC is cheap. What it costs you is a week, and that week has to come out of somewhere.

Work backwards from the first day of teaching: subtract the visa processing time, subtract the NOC's three to seven working days, subtract enough time to book a flight. What is left is the day your offer has to be in your hand, and it is always earlier than students expect.

That is exactly what our deadline board counts down to, which is why our dates are earlier than the ones universities publish.

What we charge for this

Nothing separate. Helping you through the NOC is inside the application handling fee on our fee page. The NPR 2,000 goes to the ministry through the portal, in your own name, and you keep the receipt.

Questions

Asked often

How much does an NOC cost in Nepal?
NPR 2,000, paid inside the portal at noc.moest.gov.np through ConnectIPS, eSewa or Khalti. There is no cash counter and no agent fee.
How long does an NOC take?
Three to seven working days when the documents are correct. Applications are held up by name mismatches between citizenship and academic certificates more often than by anything else.
Can I apply for the NOC before I get my offer letter?
No. The NOC cannot be applied for until you hold an offer letter from the institution. It sits between the offer and the visa lodgement, which is why it has to be counted into your deadline.
